Spring Home Organization Tips

Prepare Your Home and Storage Unit for Spring

If you’re ready to get a jump on organizing your home or prepare for spring cleaning, now is the perfect time to start with those harder to reach places. Attics, basements, garages, coat closets, and even storage units need a refresh at least once a year. You may find sentimental or valuable items you forgot you had. This also gives you a chance to resell or donate things that no longer suit you.  Whether you are starting in the basement or in the attic, there are tried and true methods to help you declutter.

Sort all of your belongings. Make separate keep, discard, and donate piles so you can see how much stays and goes in each space.

Contain it. For everything that stays, find a way to contain it. Label storage bins and containers for easy access. If it doesn’t quite fit in a bin, set it aside to decide where it should go.

Take inventory. If you’re cleaning out a storage unit, make sure to take inventory of everything you have stored. This helps to easily decide which items to discard or donate without spending too much time looking through each box.

Find the right storage space. Now that you have determined what needs to stay, organize your space properly by grouping together holiday items, seasonal tools, or decorations. Make sure items are stacked and stored properly for easy access the next time. Remember those items that didn’t quite fit before? If you’re quickly running out of storage room, consider a storage unit to help make your space bigger, brighter, and decluttered.

And no matter where you are in the decluttering or cleaning stage, think about the future.

  • Do you need a bigger or smaller unit if you are downsizing your storage items?
  • Are you planning on selling your home soon?
  • Will you need a place to store your furniture or bins while your home is on the market?

Knowing these answers will help your next big move run much smoother by being prepared. If you’re ready to move on to spring cleaning, we have that covered for you here!

A Plus Super Storage offers a visual Storage Unit Guide tool to help you choose the right unit with ease and confidence. Give it a try and give us a shout for your storage unit needs!

But not for those holiday decorations, gifts, and other items that have accumulated over the holiday season. Do you still have that holiday clutter in and around your home? It’s time to make a plan and get organized!

Plus, keeping things that will get used in the next season makes decorating faster with less waste. You’ll thank yourself later, we promise.

Next, knowing how to pack and what to store everything in is super important. We took the guessing out for you and compared totes versus boxes in terms of environmental impact, cost, and which one is best for moving and storage.

testHow to Store a Wedding Dress – A-Plus Super Storage

Whether you are getting married soon or you recently tied the knot, storing your wedding dress correctly will preserve the beauty of your picture-perfect gown. Here are 5 do’s and don’ts for worry-free dress storage.

First, the Do’s

  1. If you plan on storing your wedding dress for 1 year or longer, it’s best to have it professionally cleaned before storage. After it has been cleaned, store it in your original garment bag.
  2. Store your dress and garment bag in a wedding dress storage box versus a cardboard wardrobe box. Dress storage boxes will be best to keep your dress in pristine condition while in storage.
  3. To prepare your dress for long-term storage, lay it flat in the garment bag and dress box to prevent wrinkles.
  4. Think about the temperature of where you will be storing your wedding dress. It is recommended to store dresses in a cool, dark place with low humidity.
  5. If you are storing a wedding veil, take the same considerations from cleaning and preserving your wedding dress, and make sure it has a separate storage bag with acid-free tissue and packaging.

And Now, the Don’ts

  1. Don’t wait too long after your big day to preserve and store your dress. This will help you avoid stains setting in and prevent it from coming in contact with children or pets.
  2. Don’t leave your wedding dress on the hanger. You’ll want to remove it from the hanger and lay it flat to prevent wrinkles, wear, and tear on the creases and seams.
  3. Don’t store your gown in an attic, garage, or basement. These locations are susceptible to potential water leaks, pests, or extreme temperatures that could quickly alter your wedding day attire.
  4. Don’t let your wedding gown be exposed to elements that can discolor your garments and cause yellowing, like heat, dampness, or direct sunlight.
  5. Don’t forget about a climate-controlled unit to store your wedding dress, groom apparel or wedding decorations. A climate-controlled storage unit can be just what you need for stress-free storage of your wedding day dress and keepsakes.

It’s also a great idea to make a plan for other wedding day wear that you might need to store, like a wedding veil, shoes, groom and groomsmen tuxes, photos, or decorations. These items may require the same care and preservation as your wedding dress.

Weddings can be a stressful time, but the right planning will put your mind at ease. At A Plus Super Storage we provide affordable, climate-controlled storage at friendly locations that are convenient to you for your wedding day storage needs! Visit us in person or online to reserve a storage unit before or after you say, “I do.”

testBack to School and College Storage Tips

student storage

Summer has quickly come to a close and we are seeing an uptick in student activity throughout Lubbock. It is a welcome change! If you’re like many college students in the Lubbock area, you relied on a summer storage unit to keep your things safe for a few months. Now you’re ready to transition out of storage and into your new place. So what should you do first?

Consider your new living space

You may have realized by now that space is limited in your dorm or apartment. It’s easiest to unpack what you will use the most, like your TV and kitchen utensils. The box of old pictures or keepsakes from home might be better off in a climate-controlled storage unit. In this case, downsizing your storage rental is probably the best option for the rest of the school year.

Check your schedule

Do you plan on studying abroad or taking an out-of-state internship this year? Holding onto your storage unit is a smart idea for the things you own. You’ll be glad your personal items are protected and secured while you are fulfilling other commitments.

Know your rental terms

Check your rental agreement for move-out procedures. We make it easy on renters so you can move out just as easily as you moved in. If you move out of your space on or before your payment due date and notify our office of your departure, then no further payments will be due! It’s really that easy!

Ask for help!

Moving out might seem like too big of a chore to do it alone. Ask the property manager if you need to borrow a dolly. Maybe you need to resize your storage unit? Customer service is important to an easy transition in or out of a storage unit. It should be easy to find an onsite representative to get you squared away.

Our storage units are locally owned and operated. We work here, we live here, and we love the Lubbock community! When you’re shopping for a storage rental for yourself or your business, make sure to check out our reviews. You will quickly see what makes A Plus Super Storage a 5-star choice for students, residents, and business owners!

test5 Easy Steps to Make Renting a Breeze

Easy storage steps, storage tips, self storage

Are you thinking of renting a storage unit for your vehicle or belongings? If a move is on your mind or if you could use a little extra space to store your things, a storage unit might be just what you need! Here are 5 tips that will make renting easier to manage on move-in or move-out day.

  1. Know Before You Go. Make a list of everything going into the unit. This will help you plan and organize your space to make the most out of your storage rental. You’ll be glad you took the time to write down and itemize your items!
  2. Be Prepared. If you’re storing household items in boxes, make sure they are taped and secured all the way around with the contents marked clearly and visibly. Renting for automobile storage? Consider vehicle or tire covers for that extra layer of protection. If you’re storing furniture, placing blankets between pieces can prevent dings and scratches. Having the right supplies on hand will make packing and unpacking your storage unit a little bit easier.
  3. Label Everything. Label each and every item you store into your unit, and remember, the more detailed the better! A kitchen box could mean breakable glass or plastic Tupperware, so writing a list of contents on the box will make unpacking easier. If you plan to keep your items in storage for an extended length of time, clear or plastic bins will hold up longer than traditional cardboard.
  4. Think Outside the Box. Furniture can be stacked, emptied, or disassembled to give you more room for storage. Keep furniture vertical when possible and pushed all the way to the back. Storing a dresser? Use a drawer for furniture legs or other parts. Be sure the heaviest items are on the bottom, and that goes for your boxes, too.
  5. Store for Easy Access. Store the items you will use most often at the front of your unit. Maybe you’ve already done some spring cleaning and have winter items going in? Those should be packed away towards the back and clearly labeled. This method will keep your space tidy and will help you get in and out quickly!

A few more insider tips:

  • Understand your rental agreement, and don’t get locked into lengthy contracts or minimum stays.
  • Choose the right size unit so you don’t overpay for what you actually need. Try an online space estimator tool like ours!
  • Familiarize yourself with the hours of operation and location of your storage unit.
  • Make sure safety is a priority. Look for storage facilities that are secured and well-lit.
  • Look for a facility that is rooted in the community. If they care about their community, they will go the extra mile for you as a renter.

For your convenience, A-Plus Super Storage offers online services so you can browse and rent a storage unit from the comfort of your own home! Our helpful customer service staff can also guide you through choosing the right unit at the best location to match your storage needs.

testStorage Guide for Apartment Moving

Congratulations, you’ve found the perfect apartment to call home! The busy moving season is here with graduates, career movers and families making the transition into or out of apartment homes. So how do you get your stuff from point A to point B? A Plus Super Storage has your guide to get you into your next apartment with ease!

Know what you have.
Take inventory of your current belongings and assess the size and location of your new apartment. A storage unit is perfect for things you’re not quite ready to get rid of or transfer to your new place. Plus some of your items may require special storage to keep safe. Storage units come in all sizes so you pay for exactly what you need. Check out our online size estimator tool for easy decision making.

Have a plan for your vehicles
Depending on your commute, you may or may not need your automobile or motorcycle parked at your apartment complex at all times. Recreational vehicles and motorhomes might be restricted in your new parking areas, so knowing the parking guidelines in your rental agreement is key. A secured vehicle storage unit is an ideal solution to keep your vehicle safe, secure and out of the weather elements when you’re not using it.

Schedule movers.
If you have a budget for moving services, schedule those as early as possible. If you’re moving your belongings into a storage unit, we can provide you with packing supplies to get all your items ready for storage! We also have a trailer you can use for free to move all your stuff into your storage unit. We recommend Hart Moving.

Pack efficiently.
Packing is one of the most important steps to an easy move into your new apartment. It’s a tedious process but you’ll thank yourself later for getting it right the first time. Here are eight steps to packing a moving box the right way that will help anyone get things settled safely.

Clean for moving in and out.
Moving day is here and you’re in the home stretch! If you’re moving from a rental into your new apartment, be sure to check your agreement for cleaning and deposit refund requirements. Giving your new place a quick clean while it’s empty and before the movers arrive will make unpacking a breeze!

Tie up the loose ends.
Think address changes, secure renters insurance, update drivers licenses and verify utilities transfer or shut off. Inform your employer of your updated address and be sure to fill out the appropriate forms with the post office so your mail follows you to your new place. Keep copies of your rental agreements in a safe place for quick and easy reference. If you’re renting with A Plus Super Storage, your agreement is month-to-month so you aren’t locked into a long-term rental.

We hope this guide helps your move into your new apartment a little bit easier and you can move through the day with confidence! Have any questions? Our customer service is rated the best in Lubbock, and we’re here to help! Reach out to us online or contact any of our convenient storage locations around Lubbock.

test10 Tips to Prepare Your Home and Storage Unit for Spring

Spring cleaning season is just around the corner, and that’s the perfect time to declutter your home and storage unit. Here are 10 tips to leave your home feeling refreshed and your mind recharged with a clean, organized space!

Whether you’re starting with your home or storage unit, the first step is to declutter. Time to decide what you love and where to keep it. Make a plan for areas that are overrun with items you’re not quite sure what to do with. Room by room separate your things into three piles: sell, donate or store.

Group bulky winter items like sleds, tubes, and ski gear that take up a lot of space in your home or garage. You can keep a clutter-free home in the spring and summer months by donating coats, gloves, or other winter clothing items your family may outgrow by next season. A storage unit might be the best place to keep your winter gear safe and out of sight for when you need it again.

Organize drawers, closets, and storage areas. This includes the garage, too! Now that you know what stays and what goes, grab some bins and a label maker or marker! Labeled containers will provide a long-term solution to keeping things like cleaning supplies, pantry items, tools and school or office supplies tidy and organized. Need a starting place for home storage solutions? Follow these home storage tips!

Now that your home is clutter-free, it’s time to wipe away dust bunnies and cobwebs for springtime sparkle and shine. A thorough cleaning of windows and surfaces will make your home shine bright. Be sure to throw away expired pantry, refrigerator, and freezer food so you can easily wipe down these areas. A simple homemade cleaning solution of equal parts white vinegar and water is an inexpensive way to clean your appliances.

Test safety features around your home. This is an important step! The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends changing batteries in your smoke detectors every six months. Maintaining your air conditioning and heating units could save you a lot of money in the long run, so schedule your HVAC tune-ups now, and don’t forget to change your filters.

Have we mentioned the garage? A little TLC in your garage will go a long way for a functional space. Clear out, sort, and store what you love. If you haven’t used something in over a year, it could be time to toss it. Everything in your garage needs a home to prevent future cluttering. Labeled containers can help you stay organized all year round, and consider using your walls and ceilings for space-saver storage.

For your storage unit, an important part of maintaining an orderly space is to take inventory. If you have a storage unit already, you can manage the upkeep by making an inventory list. Check your belongings to determine what condition they are in. Consider a donate, sell or store assessment with your storage unit items.

Just like your home and garage spaces, spring clean any storage units. Wipe down your storage bins, furniture, and oversized items. Sweep out any dust and cobwebs. Be sure to throw away or recycle empty boxes or containers, and have a plan for the items that you decide to keep.

Now that you have determined what needs to stay, organize your storage unit. Make sure items are stacked and stored properly. This will make it easier when it’s time to remove or add any of your belongings in your unit.

Think about the future. Do you need a bigger or smaller unit if you are downsizing your storage items? Are you planning on selling your home soon? Will you need a place to store your furniture or bins while your home is on the market? Knowing these answers will help your next big move run much smoother by being prepared.

As you work your way through spring cleaning your home, a storage unit might be just what you need to make your space feel bigger and brighter. A Plus Super Storage offers a visual Storage Unit Guide tool to help you choose the right unit with ease and confidence. Give it a try and give us a shout for your storage unit needs!
